THANKS

Hi I finished reading the book just now, and have to applaud your writing. I laughed , I shed a tear (which is hard for me to say) and was thoroughly entertained throughout. Right to the end, it kept my interest- would they make it to the Arctic, why would they insist on it. The insight you have gained and shared is valuable (although I think you already possessed it and simply enforced it along the way). You have accomplished something special, as you know, but it took special people to do it. True, others can do it, but how many show that type of perseverance? I went up to meet you last week not really wanting to buy the book. After hearing you speak, I had to buy it to hear more of the journey still not expecting it to be well written. It was, you have many talents. My favorite parts were the old blacksmith Don Jose's insight on the first day to ignore the non-believers and the chicken/eagle story. good luck in the future, and perhaps we will cross paths again…. Terry O.

Cande & Herman –

Oh my gosh! I forgot you are pregnant! Do you know if your baby is a boy or a girl? I have to include a baby gift with your postcards and magnets. I am so glad I met the two of you. If you are EVER back this way, please, please, please park your car in our yard for a day or two. We would love to spend time with you. We would love to have your children here to play in the yard, walk in the woods and fields. I finished your book this past weekend. I saved the very end to read while at my absolute favorite place in the world….Sagamore Great Camp in the Adirondacks. It is a place very close to my heart and I thought what better place to finish a book that is also very close to my heart than there? I was sad to finish, though. I wanted the book to go on and on and on. I'm sure it must have felt something like how you felt the last few days before you knew your dream was about to become a reality. You want it to end, but you really don't. I have to tell you, your book is the best book I have ever read. It delivers such an important message. Anyone reading it has to think about the message you are sending….that material things are NOT what is important in this life. I believe that wholeheartedly. But it's so hard in today's society to set the material aside and live for the spiritual. I try …. but I find I have way too much stuff and most of it means practically nothing. It is not what is important. Reading your book brought that message front and center – loud and clear. I plan to "unload" a lot of "stuff" that is cluttering up our home and our lives. I want to live before I die. I can't live in the way you have, but I can change a few things in my life to make it more satisfying. I never would have done it or thought about it had I not read your book. Thank you …. everyone should read it! I will send the postcards and magnets this week. I hope to send more things for your to sell as time goes on. I hope to see you again sometime, as my photo supply is rather limited. If I had known I would be so inspired by your dream, I would have taken many more photos that day! I knew you were special people when I saw you, but I had no idea at that time how you would touch my heart. Take care, safe passage, Godspeed and most of all…I hope you have an uneventful, easy labor and delivery and that your baby is healthy and happy. Babies are such gifts. The best! The only thing I like more than being a mom is being a Grandmom! Debbie.

Hello Herman and Cande, Pampa and Lucas and baby to come!!!!

I just finished your book officially about 20 minutes ago. I read over 300 pages in less than 2 days, I could not put it down. Good thing I did not have a job yet, I am going to be starting one in a few days! I would have been fired for reading it at work. HA HA. One thing I am going to do at work is to tell everyone about it and let them read it and encourage to buy their own copy to cherish forever and inspire them to follow their dreams, just as you have done for me. I have told so many of it. My ten year old brother is even reading it, slowly but surely. Some of the vocabulary is hard for him but he loves it! My mom is reading it as well and excited to finish reading and see how everything turns out, as I was, but sad as you were to end your journey. We don't want to end our journey with you. I want to follow your dreams more with you and begin my own. I live in New York, NY and would love to travel through all 50 states. by car someday soon. Wow! Please let me know when the baby is born and when you reach Canada to start out on your ASIA Journey.Have safe travels. What are you doing now? I visited the website and it is great! LOVE. NICOLE F. DREAMS DREAMS DREAMS

Hello Herman and Cande (and kids)! I received your book from my very good friend Alonzo who had the pleasure of meeting you at a car show in Virginia a couple of months ago. At least I think that was where he met you. It was definitely at a car show but not sure of the location. Unfortunately, I was not able to go with him and missed out on meeting you two. Perhaps we can rectify that the next time you are in our area here. I would love to have dinner with you, hear more about your journeys or even help out with anything that I possibly could with your future expeditions. I'm only halfway through your book but already I feel as if I know you guys and I have a very special feeling for you and your family. Your book and essentially your lives are very inspiring and whether you know it or not-really help people out who have either forgotten what life is really about or have never really known at all. I know, I myself, have forgotten at times what truly makes one happy and I thank you from the very bottom of my hear that I now have a reminder from very real people what it is to live. Anytime I get down about something happening in my life that is negative or depressing, I can look and think about what it is you are doing and living and remind myself that life is not about one negative moment-but all moments good and bad and it is all about what we make of them. So, again I thank you for your inspiration. I apologize my email ran a bit long. I know you must have a ton to read when you get chances to check email. I will try to cut mine down a little next time. Happy travels and Keep the faith! Lee B.

I just had to drop you a quick letter as soon as I finished Spark Your Dream. As I was reading, I just couldn't wait to get to the next page to see what adventure/place would come up next. But then I got to the last 40 or so pages and I started to read slower, I just didn't want to get to the end, so I can only imagine how you felt once you got close to the end. I had the pleasure of meeting Herman at the New York State Fair in Syracuse. His kindness, happiness and zest for life, wife and children was definitely contagious. I asked a few questions and walked away, then I just had to return to purchase the book. What I great decision that was. What is your date to start the next dream, Asia? How long do you think it will take? And will you be taking your children? Best of luck and God be with you Herman, Candelaria, Pampa and Tehue. Michelle East Concord, NY

Hey Herman and Cande, My name is Helge, I am a German guy who met you on the Florida Keys in May and 2 more times in here Washington DC. Maybe you remember me… I just wanted to tell you that I finally finished your book; just now I’ve read the last page. It took me a pretty long time even though I am a fast reader. I guess I just didn’t want to finish it just as you didn’t want to stop being on the road. I had a great time while reading your book and it was always like if I was sitting in the car with you. It is definitely one of the best books I’ve ever read! Not written by a famous author but written in such a nice way of poetry, dreams and faith. I have learned a lot from it and I just want to thank you for writing it and say that I am very proud of you. If I am right your third baby should be born by now and you are probably back in Argentina. I hope everything is fine and that you are having a good time with your family. Even though I am a little sad that I just read the last page I am happy that I finally can write this email to you. Our time in the US is almost over and pretty soon a new part of our live will start. Just before that we will accomplish one of our dreams and hit the road with some of our best friends to go to San Francisco. We are very excited about that and counting down the days. We have a lot of faith in our trip and according to you this is the only thing we will need…. I wish you all the best for your future dreams and I can’t wait to read about your adventures in Asia. Best regards, Helge D.

Dear Cande and Herman, I bought your book at the Das Awkscht Fest car show in Macungie, PA, the first weekend in August this year. My wife read it first, and couldn't restrain herself from telling me some of the things that struck her as she read it. I finally had to ask her to please hold off, and we would discuss it when I had the opportunity to read it. One of the things that struck me, though, was how she said that the two of you seemed like friends, and not just characters in a book that we had met only briefly. Now that I'm about two thirds of the way through it myself (you are leaving Mexico at this point), I understand what she meant. You both seemed to be such genuine, kind, outgoing people at Macungie, and in this case, first impressions weren't deceiving. I would love to have the opportunity to get to know you and your growing family. Some day, my wife, Rose, and I will follow our dreams, too. I can see us touring in an old Chevrolet Corvair van (Corvairs are our automo tive passion). We are also NASCAR race fans, so maybe we'll follow the NASCAR circuit for a few seasons, not hitting every race in one season, but over the course of two or three, so that we don't have to hurry from state to state but rather go at a relaxed pace. We also are into baseball, so maybe a tour of Minor league ballparks would be in order, too. You have us SO EXCITED! I had not imagined that such a trip as yours was possible, yet I say the Graham-Paige with my own eyes. I could tell the rigors it had been through, and yet the care and attention that have been lavished upon it. There is nothing worse for an old car than to let it sit unused. Some people might be upset that you would dare to use an eighty year old car as a (gasp) CAR, but I think it is truly admirable that it is being used as it was intended to be. I would be interested in buying other items commemorating your Dream. Are there any of the calendars available (maybe for 2008)? Actually, what Rose and I would really be proud to display in our home would be an original Candelaria Zapp watercolor. I only saw the one picture in the book (the two ducks), and in black-and-white at that, but I was very impressed. I haven't gone to your web site yet to check on availability, but I intend to once I'm done writing this e-mail. God Bless you all. You are shining examples to all of us now chained to jobs, bills, and mortgages of how God intended for His people to live: Free, unfettered by material possessions, living your dream of seeing all there is to see and meeting the people He puts in your path. You have touched so many lives along your journey, as I assure you, you have touched my life and that of my wife. For this I thank you. Your Friend, and now a partner in The Dream, Jim Norristown, Pennsylvania

Dear Cande and Herman, and boys! Thank you so much for your e-mail. You must receive so many e-mails from all of the friends you have made on your journeys that I am so pleased you have taken the time to write to me. I am very pleased to say that since your last e-mail I have purchased two copies of Spark your Dream, and you are the cause for me not getting enough sleep because I stay up late most evenings reading your book! :o) It is so lovely to read about your travels, and I am sure the book could have been many times thicker if you included all the stories of your travels. I was so proud when I saw you had put my name in the back of your book – thank you so much! I think it is a wonderful idea to put so many names in the back of your book. I bought the copies of your book from Altair in Spain. I do hope you receive payment for every copy they sell. I would like to think that by buying more copies, I am helping you in your latest adventure. I will buy more copies for more of my friends, and they will find it wrapped as a present under their Christmas trees. Where are you now – when are you hoping to reach India? Will you be starting from the Southern tip, or elsewhere? I hope there will be a way for all of your friends to follow your progress across Asia. I have attached three small photographs from Muttom in India – the little village I told you about in my last e-mail, close to the Southern tip of India. For a little village, it has a large church built, I think, by the Portuguese hundreds of years ago. It is right by the water's edge and although it survived the tsunami, many of the houses around it were destroyed. It all looks so beautiful and tranquil when the sun sets in the evening. Whilst there, I met Sister Selvi who, since the tsunami, has been instrumental in building a place for children and women to eat and to study in safety, mostly through funding from individuals in the UK. I know you will have a thousand places to visit in India, but if you do manage to go to Muttom, about 20km from Kanyakumari at the Southern tip of India, ask for Sister Selvi at the St. Adrian Reachout Centre (SARC) and she will treat you with kindness. Thank you again for writing, it is so lovely to hear from you. I am enjoying reading Spark your Dream – thank you so much for telling me about it. Take care, and have a safe journey. You are all in so many peoples thoughts, Very best wishes, Ian H.

Hello Herman and Cande, I have just finished your book and I just wanted to tell you how great it is and how inspiring it is . I bought the book at a beautiful sunset in Key West , Fl . I initially bought it as a contribution but after reading the first few pages I began to get the feeling this book was a special message for me and I was led to be at the sunset that day just to be introduced to your wonderful message . God works in mysterious ways and you are doing a wonderful thing . Thank you for your inspiration and wonderful courage . Godspeed Dale Key West , Fl

Dear Travellers, I have only read half of your book and I cannot describe the range of emotions including joy and hope that your book is bringing to me. Your book is so motivating and encouraging. I met you, Herman, at Woodgrove Mall on the day that it was decided I should quit my job. We spoke briefly but your enthusiasm was so infectious. Thank you for the hug as well. I started to read your book and couldn't believe all the things that happened to you right from the start! Yet you did not quit! I have to travel a new path now. It is scary leaving the security and comfort of what is familiar. I am out there now looking for my new self. I do not know if that means a new job, a new city or whatever. It is in God's hands. I think that it is your destiny to do what you are doing. To bring hope to people and to make the world a smaller place. We do not get to choose what country we are born in. I have always said that if you look around the world the average person wants the same thing in every country. People want to love and be loved, have families, food on the table, laughter and peace. You are right that it is a very few who ruin it for the rest of the people. They are the greedy, power hungry ones that start wars and create contention. So thank you for your book and making the world a smaller place. May God Bless you and your family for the good works that you are doing in the world. Sincerely, Ute P. P.S. Would you tell me where you are now. If you are still on the island I would like to come see you again.

Hello Herman and Cande: I hope your travels are going well. I am almost 3/4 of the way through your book – I don't want it to end! I hope you have a sequel in the works. I was wondering – do you still sell your paintings? I would love to see the kind of paintings you do. Your life is amazing. Even with all the trials and tribulations – the good, the bad – it's amazing how everything just fits. Everything that happens is for a reason and each thing leads you to something more. What a learning experience. What an ADVENTURE! You are sooooo lucky to be able to fulfill the dreams you dream. I would love to just sell everything and do the same. Take care and write when you can, Debbie

Hi Herman and Cande, Even though its only been a few days, I already miss you! I finished the book on Tuesday with tears in my eyes. It ends with a very touching finish. Very nice job of writing. The summary of the journey in the last chapter is a very effective technique. I did not realize that you finished on 9/11. Did you celebrate every year on the anniversary? I find it hard to believe that you thought of all of us as you gazed out over the Arctic Ocean. However, I expected the book to tell the tale about dipping the spare wheel and tire in the Arctic. I like the triumph that at least part of Macondo was with you at the end of the journey. I hope THAT wheel and tire are the ones you kept with you. Now, its back to the boring journey following the couple in their Beetle, twice. Love, Doug

I will play the guitar and sing for you – you might not ever want to leave! Muchos gracias mis amigo. Vaya con dios. Somos Americanos – todos! David H.

Dear Herman and Cande, Keith and I met you in front of Las Americas store in Rockville, MD a few days ago. We really enjoyed visiting with you and are glad to have bought your book and become a share in your dream. We wondered if your trip will bring you back through here again. We checked out your website and enjoyed the pics. We look forward to seeing the updated maps. Hope all is well with you and the children. What a fantastic education they will have! We wondered what your friends and family thought of your "6 month" trip that lasted 3 years!? Keith and I read in your book every night and that is RARE for us. Have a great trip and we hope you make it to the Far East! Blessings, Linda and Keith H.

You are a beautiful couple and an inspiration. I want to send you money for the 10 books you gave to me. I decided I'm not going to sell them in our barbershop. I'm going to give them for Christmas gifts. Sandy C.

Hello Herman & Cande: We met in Macungie, Pennsylvania in late June. Enclosed is a picture of both of you with me and my wife Marilyn. I bought your book and it is fasinating to read. I wish you success on this new adventure in Asia. I told you that I had a 1947 Frazer built by Graham-Paige. You were interested in seeing it and that is the second picture that I am sending to you. It was the last automobile built by Graham. Frazers' were built from June 1946 (mine in September), the 679th…through July 1951. Have a safe trip, we will keep you in our prayers; Lloyd & Marilyn, Auburn, Maine, U.S.A. 08/18/07

Hi Cande, I met you at the State Fair in Syracuse, NY. That was the highlight of my day. I've been absolutely fascinated with your adventures and am loving the book. I'm half way through it and don't want it to end, but am reading it every chance I get. Today I had lunch with a cousin who is in charge of the public library in Cazenovia. She was really interested and will be ordering the book very soon. I will probably have to get another one for my daughter for Christmas because I expect this one will be very well worn before then. I wish I had talked more with you to see when you plan to leave for Asia. We have a daughter who lives in Qatar (in Doha) who would love to have you visit them, but I don't know if you have plans to go there. Her husband works there and they have been there 8 years. They expect to come back in June of 2008. Good luck in all your travels!!! Love, Loretta S.

Hello Herman and Cande!!! Wow. Hello, my name is Nicole, and I met you at the Great NYS Fair in Syracuse, NY. I bought your book and I am half way through it. I am up to the point where you have just entered Panama! How amazing!!!! I have always wanted to travel myself and have only been to London and Italy with my boyfriend. I am 22 years old. Your stories are just amazing and your travels and all of the people that you have met. How did you not give up and persevere no matter what happened? You always seemed to have met amazing people who helped you no matter what obstacle you were trying to overcome! I am looking forward to finishing the book, and I will contact you when it is done and I am finished reading it. My mother came back to the fair on Labor Day special just to meet both of you after I told her about you guys and she bought it too. She is loving it! Thanks for inspiring me to travel and pursue my dreams! Nicole F.

Dear Cande & Herman, I finished reading your book, “Spark Your Dream,” which I got in Macungie last month. I must say that you folks have had a continuing & marvelous adventure. I certainly enjoyed reading about it. Thank you both. While reading your delightful saga, a number of things struck me: • I was surprised that you’d been to Macungie a few years earlier. It must have been one of those rare years when I didn’t attend Das Awchk Fescht. I’ve been going to the Fescht ever since I returned to New Jersey, after living in North Carolina for 10 years. I regret missing you the first time, but am glad we met last month. • I was surprised, too that Pampa was born in Greensboro. From 1975-1985, we lived about 10 miles east, near Gibsonville. Small coincidence. • I was distressed at the deplorable treatment you folks received in Hershey. It was simply inexcusable and proves that you can find assholes anywhere. Thankfully, they are in the minority. Most folks, as you well know, are decent. For whatever reason, I didn’t know about your travels before meeting you last month. It seems I was one of the few folks in my family that did not know (and I am the car & travel nut!). My adult children and a couple of spouses were familiar with your story. When I mentioned meeting you, my son asked if I’d bored you with a story of my own favorite adventures. So your saga reminded me of my own. … I also realized once I’d started reading the book that I had been remiss when we met in Macungie, having failed to extend an offer for lodging. If you get back this way again, you’ve got another place to stay. You’ve surely been blessed by God in many ways. While I am religious and have a strong faith, I’ve never thought that God spends much time guiding our individual lives and seldom, if ever, interferes with our exercise of free will. Nonetheless, the way you seemed to come through difficult circumstances so very often suggests there was some ‘divine intervention’ for the Zapp family! Good for you!! Perhaps God has a Graham Paige, Himself!!! My best to you all and your coming family addition. Greg, Hampton, NJ

Candelaria, Herman, Pampa & Lucas: Please let me know when you expect to be in Central New York again, I live in Baldwinsville, NY, near the State Fair and would love to host your family. Hello, My wife and I met you in Ottawa, Ontario Canada 2 weeks ago in the market place and bought a book from you. It is a terrific story and it was a real pleasure to meet you both. Are you coming through Toronto or the surrounding region at anytime in the near future? Which is the best way to purchase more books so your family will gain the most? I wish you all the best and hope to meet again in the future. Cheers. Colin O'R.

Dear Candelera, Herman and Family, Do you remember me, we met at the Fair? I enjoyed meeting you and am telling everyone about you. The book is wonderful and I am up to the Amazon boat ride. You guys were crazy! I put your magnet on the gas tank of my motorcycle and a few weeks later an old riding buddy called and asked me to go on an expedition to Alaska on motorcycles next July. I will bring your shirt with me and wear it when I get there. I know your busy planning your next adventure but if you can drop a quick note to let me know you received this, so that we can be connected. Cheers for now! Your traveling comrade, Phillip (Compass boy) A. P.S. I'm the one that gave you the car compass at the NY State Fair. Hope you can use it!

Hi Cande and Herman, I hope all is going well with you. I am enjoying your book in small doses like a good meal. It makes me want to get on the road again and I will start to plan my India adventure soon. How are you liking Dianne Steumers book? I'm sorry I haven't gotten pictures to you yet. My daughter Jacquie will be over this week and she'll show me how. My other daughter Carrie is expecting her baby in mid-December just as you are Candy. Buena suerte a vosotros Bob Y.

Hello Herman, Cande, Pampa, and Tehue In September I met Herman at the Market in Ottawa, we chated and my husband and I purchased your book Spark Your Dream. I am writting you now just as I had finished reading the last pages moments ago. Thank you for letting me become part of your dream. This is a wonderful book, full of emotion. Dreams do come true. Just yesterday, I was telling a customer (Jorge) that comes into the store that I work, who is also from Argentina about your book. He is so excited for me to come back and give him your website to get his book, and it maybe a Spanish version. I also must thank you for bringing back the memories of the dream that I have fulfilled. 10 years ago I set out to fulfill the dream of becoming part of 4% of the female truck driver population. Despite all the negitive feedback of others that I couldn't do it, I suceeded in travelling all over Canada and U.S. for 3 1/2 years. Like you this one dream lead to another dream, I found the man that I love and want to spend the rest of my life with. I also wanted to let you know that if your in the area, a little village that I live near has an antique car show the beginning of July of each year. www.merrickville.net This is a village of 1000 people. It is a very touristy village on the Rideau Canal. I know that you will be recieved well, and be able to sell alot of books. If you are interested I can set things up for you as I work in this small village. Also if you are ever in the area, I just wanted to let you know that your family is welcome to our home, our door is always open. If you are in need of help no matter where you maybe, we will be honored to help in any way we can. Take care of yourselves and each other. May all your dreams come true. Your New Friends Carla & Darren, Ontario-Canada

Dear Candelaria and Herman Zapp, My mother and father told me about your Alaskan adventure after they met you here in Winnipeg. I just read your fantastic book and now my father is reading it. It was a great story and I’m so happy that you were able to make it to Alaska. I think my parents said that you were heading to Vancouver after Winnipeg. My parents told you that I will be heading to South America but you might not remember because you must meet lots of people. I’m flying to Venezuela on the 21st of November and I will spend the next six months backpacking through the continent. I know never to plan too much ahead but my route is to go counter-clockwise through the continent (Venezuela, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia, Chile, Argentina and ending in Brazil). Peru and Argentina are the countries I most want to see. It was really neat to read about some of the places I hope to see in your book. I’ve been to Europe but this will be my first time in South America and I am very much looking forward to it. At first I was worried about travelling some more when I could be working but I think it’s good to see a bit more of this world while I’m young and have the chance to do so. It's good to follow your dreams! Perhaps I will see you there if I am very lucky. I wish you all the best in your continued adventures and have lots of fun. Gerhard, Winnipeg

Dear Cande and Herman, It was so wonderful to meet you again in Bennington, VT. We met you in Hershey, PA five years ago. At that time we bought your first book. In Bennington, we bought your new book, Spark your Dream. I want to tell you it was one of the most wonderful books I have read. It was amazing how you accomplished all you did with all the obstacles that came your way. Your determination to complete your dream was amazing. The wonderful people, the homes they shared with you, and the wisdom they passed along was very touching. I bought another copy of your book in Hershey a few weeks ago to share with friends I want to read your amazing story. I didn't want to lend out my autographed copy that you signed in Bennington. I am sorry we didn't have someone take a picture of us with you and your car. We were so honored to meet you a second time. We hope you are continuing your travels as you head to India. We will try to follow you a long and try to buy your next book. Our best wishes to all of you as you travel toward another dream. Our best wishes to you and the new baby you expect soon and your little boys. Newell had a dream to go to Alaska too. He did want to drive there, but we did get there via plane, and land tour, and cruize to Vancouver and back. We had been to some of the places you spoke about in the book. We have some Model T Fords we take on tour. We toured with the Hartmans in Colorado and also in Massachusetts. When we tour, we trailer the car to the destination, then drive. We have to go that route because of work schedules. We enjoy the old Fords – we have a 1921 touring, and a 1914 touring. Newell is building little pickup truck as we go into winter. We, too, have met some nice people along the way on our tours. We have toured in South Dakota, Colorado, Kentucky, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Maine, New York, Vermont, and Massachusetts. We "cheat" because we have to trailer to our destination. We take the cars out here and there on a weekend for a drive. Last Christmas, we were Santa and Mrs. Claus and delivered Christmas gifts to our grandchildren on Christmas Day. What a surprise for them. The 1914 is red – so it looks pretty neat to use for Santa. Hope you are all well. We enjoyed meeting you again. and the book was wonderful. You just want to keep reading and following you along. Sincerely, Barbara & Newell, New Hartford

Cande and Herman, I am friends with Andy and Ellen in Fairfax, Virginia. Though I have never shaken hands with you, I was at the Model A Club meeting years back when you passed through Washington D.C. for the first time. I was awestruck at the time that you had undertaken this incredible journey . . . and by that time there were already three of you! Now Andy tells me there are five. He was kind enough to pass along some pictures of your latest visit to his home. The Graham-Paige has grown! Andy tells me you are now in Canada, where I hope you have a warm, cozy place to stay. Driving in Canada from now till spring would be pretty hazardous and cold. I just finished reading your book, and it was captivating from start to finish. In my mind I kept saying things like "I can't believe it!" and "are they really going to try that?" Since I knew about you from your first D.C. visit, I imagined that your trip was pretty much as you had originally planned it, except for the addition of a new passenger. How wrong I was! Every chapter held surprises, and since I have never traveled south of the U.S. border, I learned a great deal about the cultures of South and Central America. I was saddened by the few times you were badly treated, most especially at the Hershey Car Show, which I attend almost every year. (I "camp" in a 1963 Shasta camper I fixed up and park at the Hershey Campground. See below.) As a long-time AACA member and an attorney, I would have seen to it that didn't happen, had I been there. I would love to meet you if you come through the Washington DC area again. If you ever need anything by way of support or legal help, please call or email me at any time. My time and resources are at your disposal. Goodbye for now. I hope all is well with you, and best of luck as your amazing journey continues. Bill Model A Club

Hi Herman and Cande We saw you in Regina this summer. I also saw on your website that you have a new baby girl, Paloma. How far have you gotten with your car? We enjoyed meeting you and your boys last summer (2007) . I have read your book and enjoyed it very much. Have a great New Year, 2008! Pete and Mary H.

My name is Christian P. I just finished reading your book. So I feel like I know you while you don't know me I guess you know what its like to be a celebrity now:- ( What an incredible journey! My parents bought your book for me when they ran into you guys at a tug boat event in Waterford, NY this past summer. There names are Mike and Marilyn. I wouldn't expect you to remember them but they mentioned to you that I was driving to Argentina. I can only hope that my trip will be half as exciting as yours was. My friend and I are leaving in about 3 weeks. I was wondering if you still had contact with the families you took supplies to Cuba for? Also, it seemed you got multiple offers to take your vehicle around the Darien Gap. Do you have any contacts for any of the shipping people that gave you reasonable prices? Your story of forging the Amazon was incredible. Your book is so encouraging! Now I read that your headed for China! So exciting. When you ran out of money makes me want to start with nothing. Are you in the States now semi permanently because we would love to visit you guys when we arrive in Argentina…say 4 years from now;-) much thanks, Christian P.

Hello beautiful family dreamers. We met you at the port of Nanaimo and bought your book and chatted with you a little. Every night for the last 10 days we read to each other until just now……..when we hit the Artic Ocean. You have inspired us …you tenacity, your love of people, your love of family, your trust and faith………..your deep understanding of life itself. I am asking my team of angels to join yours, so that they all dance and play while inspiring us all to be the best we can be in our respective lives. We are Kristeen and Roland…an artist and a teacher, a lover of life and another. You are right, the best thing you can give your children is the love you have for each other Herman and Candelaria. That is what we did with our 3 daughters and as I must, they turned out great, beautiful and happy little women. We live in Nanaimo and believe you may still be in the area, if you give a talk somewhere, we would love to see you again and who know maybe we can help in the next dream. Have fun All the very best Kristeen and smiling in my heart: Roland Kristeen V.

Dear Herman and Cande, It's with great emotion that I write to you. I have been reading "Spark your dreams" for the past two weeks, going slowly to enjoy the book a little longer, and follow your steps at the speed of the Graham. I am sure you are personally reading your emails, which is why I'm feeling so nervous! I am a French citizen who traveled a bit with her parents growing up, later meeting an American man and following him to Portland, OR. We are now on our way to move to Wales, then maybe Vancouver BC in a couple of years – this is our way to live our dream (visiting different parts of the world) while still working (my husband loves his job as a counselor for addicted people). I wanted to let you know, as many have done before me, how much your book is inspiring and a support in hard times. It's good to feel like we're not "crazy" for not buying a house and building up savings like all our friends do, but rather keep moving to our next destination and enjoying the cultures we are blessed to be part of for awhile. My sister is going through a very hard time in her life; I wanted so much for her to read your book, as I know it will make her feel a little better. But she only speaks French and I could not find a translation of Spark your Dreams in French. Any plan to have the book translated in other languages? I wish you all the best in your adventure and congratulations on the new addition to your family. If you're ever in Portland, Cardiff, or one day Vancouver, we'd be honored to host you! Best, Veronique, Portland OR

Dear Herman & Cande, Please do not think I am being too familiar, but I feel compelled to write. My wife, Shirley, and I met you at the New York State Fair in Syracuse, New York. Cande came right over and spoke with us and made us feel welcome in our home state. As a result, I purchased one of your books, entitled Spark your Dream. I did not fully understand or appreciate the difficulties that you faced on your journey. As a result, I did not begin to read the book until late in January of this year. The book has helped me to realize all you have gone through and how you have handled every situation as it has arisen. It is perhaps a little ironic that I began to appreciate how you two have been going about living your dream just as I was realizing one of my own. My dream was nowhere as ambitious or challenging as yours, but, for me seemed almost as impossible as little as one year ago. While we talked, Cande mentioned that you next desired to take another journey. I am curious as to how that venture is shaping up. Also, although our encounter was very brief, I cannot help but feel that we are friends. I would love to hear from you. Also, I would like to know if ther is small way in which I may be able to contribute in helping you to achieve your dream. With best wishes for all, Shirley & Will B.

I never would think I would write to the authors of a book, but I just finished Spark Your Dream and felt compelled to thank you for sharing your story. I luckily received the book as a birthday gift while chasing my own dream, moving away from all of my friends in order to move along on the road of my dream career, documentary film making. Your book is so inspiring and reiterates the things I know in my heart about connections with people and experiencing the world to be the most important things in life. I wish you and your family all the best in the world. Warmest regards, Megan Seattle WA.

Heeelllllooooooooooooo from the land of the north. Congratulation on the completion of the book, it is wonderful and well done. We received our signed copy and had it read in the first week that it arrived. A year and a half ago we sold the business to our son and family and retired to pursue some of our dreams as well. Last April I left here in a 1930 model A pickup pulling a teardrop trailer and spent 2 ½ months traveling in it. That was a long time for me, having never taken more than a few days off at a time, but truly enjoyed it. the last month I had Stephon, our oldest grandson with me, he had his learners permit and learned to drive it by driving it up to Alaska on the alcan highway. Then January of this year Wilma and I spent a month traveling the us by a 1966 Chrysler 300M, and had a great time. I am attaching a couple pictures. Hope you get this and that all is well with you and that you are gaining on your new dreams. Wilma and Willy Fairbanks, AK

Hello Herman and Cande (and kids) I wanted to let you know that I just finished reading your book. I also want you to know that one of my jobs with the Times Colonist is book reviewer. I have also written and had 4 books published with another one on the way. I tell you this because I want you to know that I am a very critical reader – and I read a great many books. I am also especially critical of self-published books – they are often simply badly written and uninteresting. That said, yours is one of the best and most inspiring books I have ever read in my life. I have recommended it to everyone I know – 'Put it at the top of your list!" I told them "Run don't walk to Amazon.com and buy this book!" I think you have probably heard form hundreds and thousands of people telling you that meeting you and/or reading your book has changed their lives. I don't know if your book changed my life but I am thinking very deeply about my life. You see, the day after I wrote your story and met you (and I wish I could have spent much longer with you) I picked up my new puppy. That next week was the most stressful week in my life. I work like a fiend – from sunup until late – I write many many features and I do film work and basically I have no time to do anything but work. When I imagine why I am doing this, I imagine money piling up in my pension fund for when I eventually retire. I imagine the money but never why I am earning all this money. So here I was, working like mad and trying to train a new puppy. And one day late that week I was looking at my beautiful little puppy thinking, "I should be enjoying her – instead I am more stressed than I have ever been in my life." The next day I called one of my editors and dropped a lot of the work I do. Now I seem to be working a "normal" 8 hours or so. Much less stress. But I also know that more has to change. Your book inspired me. And I've been asking myself what my dream is. I travelled around the world when I was young and had many adventures. I have been to Europe many times. I have been married twice. I have been in love. I have climbed mountains. I have a good life. What I don't have is someone to share it with. Perhaps that is my dream. Someone to love and to live the rest of my life with – to have fun with,. play with, have adventures with. I wish you a wonderful cross-Asia trip and Africa. You are going to have more wonderful adventures. Thank you for changing lives – that is what you are doing – you are changing lives and you are part of that movement – that new consciousness that is changing the world. big hugs to all of you Goody PS – I hope you let me know if you come through this part of the world again.
